Monthly Archives: December 2008

Thanks, 2008 … but I’m hungry for 2009.

2008. What an absurd year, for most people. If you spend enough time on the internet you’d get the feeling that the world was ending, or at least that the U.S. was. But, as garbage as things might seem I’m going to take a minute to say thanks for what was overall a great year. [...]

photo schizo?

Okay, so I realize that those photographers who are wisened up to self promotional norms like to portray an air of confidence through their online presence. Which of course, is good. You’d probably not want editors / clients to know that you always doubt yourself, or that you feel like you don’t deserve what you [...]

road. trip. again.

Every year on either Christmas or Thanksgiving our family heads out to see one side of relatives in Dayton, Ohio. This year’s no different. We leave in the morning. Stuffed in a van. For 6 hours. Sometimes life seems like it’s not changing at all … despite the fact that was once a comfortable fit [...]

trapped indoors, if you choose.

It’s been snowing a ton the past week, but last Thursday in a bout of clairvoyance decided to suck it up and spend the afternoon putting the snow tires on my car…well worth the frozen hands and muddy, slush soaked jeans it cost me.  Later that weekend I spent some time at Bryan House again, [...]

the last minute…

I arrived at the venue for the night right as my Bears blocked a Green Bay field goal attempt to win the game. Happiness followed with the overtime victory. I also saw Elvis, and though he unfortunately reminds me of my current ‘governor’ he always helps with pictures.

“you look blissed”

I rarely ever go black and white … but that was the request here.
A few more shots, in a different style, for the artist mentioned a few posts ago. I think I can dig the b/w for portrait stuff though. It’s just the music I’m really anxious for.

Visual Culture Awards / Site Rework (again)

I woke up to find out the winners for the Visual Culture Awards were announced this morning, and I’m happy to see classmates Maisie Crow, Xiao Mei Chen and Shaena Mallett on the list of winners. In the photography world it seems like we at times are almost burdened by trying to get our name [...]

sun in a window

made some portraits of my buddy for a forthcoming acoustic disc, probably will shoot some more. This is a quick study in how light makes all the difference in the picture, as does the way you look at it. Same place, same time period, same light.

escape

The night is cover, with hints of life but nothing clearly defined. In some abstract fashion I’ve discovered I’m working on an essay that deals with this. Now recognized, I might as well continue. This frame is about three weeks old.

a call of thanks

Today was the dedication for the Bryan House. Some donors and volunteers showed up to take a look at the project that is getting closer to completion. Once everyone was done mingling for awhile Ketsia, a refugee from the Democratic Republic of the Congo sang a song in Kinyarwanda, the native language of Rwanda, where [...]
