somewhere between 2 and 5 am my buddy Coe is gonna roll into uptown Manhattan behind the wheel of an old geo prizm, 3 surfboards strapped to the roof and probably a few donuts in my soon to be passenger seat. He’ll probably call, a bit lost but in the general vicinity and I’ll have to drag my ass off of the couch I have become so accustomed to, haul all of my luggage down six flights of stairs due to a busted elevator and find a way to fit it in this car. After this about thirteen hours of road time needs to be clocked before we get into Folly Beach, South Carolina…where, if the gods are feeling gracious, will be some glassy three foot surf waiting for us at sundown. In reality, I’m praying that the Prizm gets us there in any time under a full 24 hours.
I’m not exactly excited to be leaving behind this city as I’m just starting to learn it and make friends here. I didn’t go in the empire state building, I didn’t go to the Met, I didn’t walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. Meh. Maybe I should have gone to the Met.
But I did get to meet a lot of awesome people and strengthen friendships already made before. That’s what makes life.
I haven’t taken any photos really this past week (well maybe a few)…but I kinda just wanted to be hanging out not putting a lens in front of my face for awhile. I did catch a few NY’ers with their dogs though, which I can’t help but be amused by in this concrete jungle after walking people walk their dogs in the open spaces of suburbia for so long. I mean, that’s cruel to give a dog no option but a sidewalk for their duty. (this last picture is a double exposure, it’s not photoshoppery).
Ok, well I’m out. Thanks NY for a good time! Thanks Cindy (muchas muchas gracias to a great soul), Robyn, for exploring with me, Keith, Aya, Max, Casey, Andres and everyone else rad that I met.
And also my new buddy Jason Andrew, probably one of the best photographers I’ve met in awhile. Check out his stuff
I think he could blow up. His website is not up yet all the way but I just saw stuff he photographed in New Orleans and it was amazing.
