I get nervous every time I have to shoot a portrait. Portraits are hard, especially when the person doesn’t feel like getting their picture taken…which is often the case. Today the person I worked with didn’t mind, in fact she just jammed out on her mandolin and it seemed like she forgot I was there. I kinda forgot I was taking pictures cuz the music she played was amazing, covers and her originals….even busted out a bluegrass/rocked out version of Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.” So this was fun, and considering I own a mandolin (but rarely play because I hurt my own ears these days) I was pretty impressed. I won’t be surprised if this girl blows up on the bluegrass scene in not too long. An amazing voice to boot. I’ve photographed a good amount of musicians … and I can’t say that for a lot of them. This isn’t the shot to get published, but here’s an outtake.
