Okay, so maybe I’ll update this thing periodically … though the photo every day thing will still be on the website. Last day at the internship tomorrow, then some days in the mountains of Co. on my snowboard, should be good.
On new years day, 2 weeks from today, I got a phone call from the family I stayed with in Ecuador. I was slightly hungover but more just extremely tired from shooting the Bear’s game the night before, and coming directly from that to my friend’s where there I was one of the last ones up at the party with some friends. So at about noon I’m half asleep on my friend’s couch, everyone is there, but only sort of, half asleep, some still half drunk, some fully asleep.
Then my phone rang with this bizarre international number. Not one to answer weird phone calls I decided to pick this one up because the number was international, and if someone calls from overseas it’s interesting, wrong number or not. I had an extremely difficult time pulling the limited Spanish I knew out of my foggy, sleep deprived head…and I wish I could call them back…but they have no working phones. I don’t even know how they got to calling me. It’s possible they got a phone, but I can’t imagine them being able to afford service. They used these old cell phones now just for video games. I still feel weird/guilty/frustrated not being able to talk with them. The reception was awful and I couldn’t be sure whether I heard an urgent tone or not.
