Art fairs are cool because you can take other people’s work and mess with it. The Naperville Fine Art Fair is actually a really good one, and I saw so many photographs on display that I wish I had taken. Dammit. I wonder how many of these people were self taught, I know some were because I spoke with them. The photography I saw here blew away most (with reserve of a select few) people’s work from the art program in my undergrad program. The painting/sculpture/other media was good too, but I wouldn’t say much better than some of the people I knew. I met some interesting people from around the country and got to hear a little bit about life on the art fair circuit. It’s a life of travelling and sitting around to sell your work, and stopping to make more work, or making more work while travelling. Not a bad life, minus the sitting around to sell your work part.
